We had an amazing day today!
·     Some of us had fun lunch from Boston Pizza.
·     We discussed what we would say to Terry Fox if he was still alive?  Please ask me what I would say?
·     Some of us are bringing home new library books today.  There were many students that forgot to bring their books back.  Please return them so your child can get a new book.
·     It was very chilly outside when we ran/walked for Terry Fox this afternoon.  We ran/walked first and then met in the gym for an assembly.  Ask me the best thing I liked about running/walking outside and the assembly?
·     Please look in our folders for our tattoos.  We didn’t have time to put them on today.
Congratulations grade 1!  We collected $55.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Friendly Reminders:

Tomorrow is Friday and the students are finished at 11:45 am.

Orange Shirt Day is observed on September 30th, but because our grade six students are involved in other activities on that day, BWS will observe Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, October 1st instead. More information about this day will be forthcoming.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently putting together a list of people who may be able to give us the gift of some of their time for these occasions. If you are interested in supporting our school in this way, please email us at
Bridlewood@cbe.ab.ca. Please remember that all volunteers must have a current security clearance and have completed a yearly volunteer form. If you need to begin this process, please visit our school office during regular office hours.

Highlights from Our Learning

Fall arrived yesterday and students have been continuing to use their senses for signs of how we know it is fall.  Yesterday, the children discussed, wrote and illustrated how they see fall and today we shared what we hear in the fall.  We encouraged the children to go out for a walk after school with their families look for all the fall things they can see, hear, touch and smell.  They might even taste something being cooked in the kitchen that has to do with fall?

We continue to  learn about the legacy of our Canadian Hero Terry Fox.

The children have been sharing their Rooster is Off to See the World story with other grade 1 classmates from rooms 3 and 4.

Friendly reminders:

Terry Fox Run, Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1:15pm
Families are invited to join us for our school assembly and run which will be held on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 26 at approximately 1:15 PM. Students can bring a Toonie for Terry to school to support the fundraising efforts. Our fundraising goal this year is $800.

Book exchange in the Learning Commons is on Thursday.  Please bring library books back before or on that day.

Orange Shirt Day is observed on September 30th, but because our grade six students are involved in other activities on that day, BWS will observe Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, October 1st instead. More information about this day will be forthcoming.

Happy first day of fall!

Highlights of Our Learning:
-We started the day by talking about the season FALL and all of the changes that we notice at this time of the year. Then the children started to create their own Fall book titled "In The Fall". They printed these words on the cover and then completed page one by copying one group-generated idea about what we SEE in the fall. Ideas included, "In the fall I see leaves changing colour." "In the fall I see animals gather food." and "In the fall I see leaves falling down." Please ask your child what idea they printed and illustrated today.
-We worked a patterning activity in math. Students printed their name over and over on grid paper and by colouring each letter a different colour, we are starting to see some beautiful patterns emerge.
-In the afternoon we learned about a Terry Fox. Please have your child tell you what they learned about this Canadian hero.
-Students had music today, ask them what they did in class?
We learned a new sight word song today.  We are focusing on the words this week.  Please sing the song with your child.

  • Today was our first day visiting the Learning Commons in grade 1.  We are bringing a book home tonight to read with our parents.  Our book exchange will be every Thursday.  Please make sure the books are back every week before our Thursday exchange.
  • We read a story called "I like Myself."  Afterwards we illustrated what we lie about ourselves in our visual journals.
  • We reviewed many of our letter sounds singing a song, "Jolly Songs Alphabet."  It's a great way to review the letter sounds.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K2rxtgQpd0
  • Rooster Saves The World has inspired us to be amazing story tellers.   We  acted out the story today using snap cubes and the world.
  • In math, we used the Power of Ten cards to put them in order from 1-10.  Afterwards, we played "Face Off" with a partner.  It's a great game to play at home with family and friends.  You can use cards instead of Power of Ten cards.

Happy Tuesday!

We have been talking about using our voice when something is bothering us.  "Speak Up Wonder Pup,' is a story we have read to help us stand up for ourselves with confidence.  Students have been using the "Imessage" to communicate with each other when faced with a conflict in a calm and caring way.  These include:
1. Name
2. I don't like it when...
3. Stop
When faced with a problem students know to use eye contact, body language and voice volume.

We also have read the story "Rooster's Off To See The World."  The students have been making 10 and 12 using the animals in the story.  They have created a story map to illustrate their story and are working towards being the story teller and acting it out.
