Highlights from our learning

·      This week in math we finished up our math centers. Children practiced the skills of adding 1, adding 2, adding 2 numbers on a domino, adding 2 numbers on a dice and making 10 with the power of ten cards with a partner.

·       We learned a new way to play "Face Off" with playing cards. By using the 1(Ace), 10 (Jack, Queen , King) we turn over one card at a time from our pile and added them together.  Whoever says the total (sum) wins that round a gets to keep all of the cards.  Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game is the overall winner. This is an easy game to play at home with the family when it’s cold outside. See what addition strategies your child is using as they play (adding one, counting on, using doubles etc.)

·       During our word word today, we played “Word Detective” with a partner.  In the afternoon, we taught Ms. Aebli’s class how to play “Guess My Word?”

·       In gym, we played a game with our grade 6 buddies.  We built a house out of hula-hoops.  We had defenders protecting them so the other team wouldn’t knock them down with a ball.

·       We have been busy scientists learning about reptiles and amphibians.  Ask me 3 characteristics I know about each.

·       This afternoon, all the grade 1’s gathered in rooms 3 and 4.  We learned about Arthropods, Invertebrates and Vertebrates.  Ask me three things I know about each of them.
